  • Postgres + SKIP LOCKED — simplest, good enough for many apps.
  • Redis / BullMQ — fast, in-memory, add persistence care.
  • Managed (SQS) — durable, scales, less ops.

Monitor queue depth and consumer lag; alert before backlog grows unbounded.
