Choosing PostgreSQL

Why Postgres is our default datastore, with honest limitations.

By Mohammad Zayed

Overview

PostgreSQL is our default relational database: it is reliable, extensible and handles most workloads without a separate datastore.

Why Postgres

  • Strong consistency and mature indexing.
  • JSONB when you need flexible columns.
  • Huge ecosystem and operational knowledge.

Limitations

For massive write throughput or specialized search, add a cache, a search engine, or a purpose-built store — Postgres rarely needs replacing early.
